Seasonal Tips

Early Spring (March and April):
Springtime in southern Ohio is one of the most exciting times of the year. Our lawn care professionals are busy applying pre-emergent crabgrass control and fertilizer. The landscape technicians are also fertilizing and protecting your trees and shrubs with a dormant oil spray. You should be servicing your mower, making sure the blades are sharp and cleaning up all the debris that has collected on the lawn from the winter. Birds singing, flowers blooming and grass greening up are sure signs that Mother Nature is right on schedule.

Late Spring (May and June):
Everything should be in full bloom, even the dandelions in the neighbors' lawns. Our professionals are busy applying broadleaf weed control and fertilizer to our lawns. The Buckeye EcoCare arborists are protecting landscapes from disease and insect pests. We have also started the first of our perimeter pest control treatments around the outside of your home. Mowing frequency and keeping the blades sharp is very critical this time of year. Also, you need to make sure your watering system is up and running. Summer is just around the corner.

Summer (July and August):
The dog days of summer have arrived. A great test for a healthy plant is how it performs under stress. Our lawn care technicians are applying grub protection and slow release fertilizer. The landscape professionals are busy monitoring and controlling every insect and disease pest which are active at this time of year. For green industry professionals, summertime is a very important time of the year. Longer days, warmer nights and lack of rainfall can create service problems. Buckeye EcoCare has a staff of over 20 experienced licensed professionals ready to react to any lawn or landscape problem you have. If it is dry outside, try to make sure you apply a minimum of one inch of water per week.

Early Fall (Late August and September):
It is time to measure the damage and start the repair process. Our lawn care professionals are applying broadleaf weed control and fertilizer. Our arborists are still monitoring and controlling the second generation of insect pests. Early fall is the best time of year to plant grass seed. Slice-seeding or topdressing and seeding in August and September will allow the young plants to establish themselves before winter. Shorter days and cooler nights are just around the corner!

Late Fall (October and November):
Time to prepare our plants for winter. The Buckeye EcoCare professionals are feeding your turf and landscape plants very heavy in the fall. This feeding allows all plants the best opportunity to build root reserve for next year. Remove your annual flowers, cut the perennials back and lower your mowing height to 2 1/2". Try to keep the leaves cleaned up the best you can this fall.
