February 2017 was reported as the warmest February on record. The photos are from last week and this week, which is our first week of spring! It seems that Mother Nature is up to her old tricks again this season.
Most experts agree that 2017 will continue to be warmer than normal, so we recommend these measures to help build deep roots starting this spring:
- Maintain sharp mowing blades
- Raise mower height to 3.5″
- Aerate compacted soils
Now for the good news. Micro organisms like disease and insect pests are just as confused as we are and cannot survive sub freezing temperatures without cover.
Our only 2 goals in March and April are to get your pre-emergent crabgrass control down and to feed this confused turf. Once we see dandelions blooming, we will incorporate post-emergent sprays into our programs.
