Well, not really…but our early spring pre-emergent treatments did not survive the 90 to 120 day residuals promised for the summer. Our area’s August 1 year-to-date rainfall amounts are more than 3 inches above normal, which also adds to the crabgrass explosion. The drenching rains in May that brought us such beautiful summer flowers also brought us a great crop of annual grassy weeds!

The good news is that 0ur clients who follow best practices have 0% to 5% crabgrass invasion – good control.

Best Practices:
- Thick, competitive turf keeps weeds out naturally. Fertilize regularly with balanced nutrients.
- Follow good cultural practices. Mow high and water as needed during the dry summer months.
- Use pre-emergent products timely and at the correct rates.
None of the above best practices are new to us but now is the time to plan fall aeration and overseeding for any trouble areas you may have in your lawn.
